Benefits of a Doula

From a study by the National Institute of Health, continuous labor support has been proven to have clinically and emotionally meaningful benefits for a birthing person in labor. In a trial involving over 15,000 women, those who had a birth doula decreased the length of labor by 25%, were more likely to have a spontaneous vaginal birth, and a 50% decrease in cesarean rate. They were also less likely to request an epidural by 60%, and less likely to be dissatisfied with their overall birthing experience.

As a birth doula, I offer:

  • Information and guidance before, during, and after pregnancy, labor, and delivery

  • Physical comfort and support through massage, breathing technique, and visualization

  • Emotional support and encouragement

  • Help facilitating communication with you and your medical providers

  • Guidance and support for partners (if applicable)

  • Assistance with breast-feeding
