Benefits of a Doula
From a study by the National Institute of Health, continuous labor support has been proven to have clinically and emotionally meaningful benefits for a birthing person in labor. In a trial involving over 15,000 women, those who had a birth doula decreased the length of labor by 25%, were more likely to have a spontaneous vaginal birth, and a 50% decrease in cesarean rate. They were also less likely to request an epidural by 60%, and less likely to be dissatisfied with their overall birthing experience.
As a birth doula, I offer:
Information and guidance before, during, and after pregnancy, labor, and delivery
Physical comfort and support through massage, breathing technique, and visualization
Emotional support and encouragement
Help facilitating communication with you and your medical providers
Guidance and support for partners (if applicable)
Assistance with breast-feeding
